The Norman Howard School teaches a writing process routine developed by Architects For Learning called EmPOWER. These strategies are copyrighted materials and anyone not affiliated with NHS should use the link above to obtain further information about them.
Students at the 11th and 12th grade level, who have been enrolled at NHS for at least a few years should be fairly versed in this strategy. Some students may have internalized the process to the point where they may be able to shed the formal use of scaffolding measures such as paragraph templates, while others may still need them. I have placed links to various blank EmPOWER tools that are used and have been taught in grades 5-10. All are in a Microsoft Word fromat and can be downloaded by right clicking and then choosing “Save as”.
